Oddly Eventful

Thursday 1-8-04, when I went to Andrew’s grave, proved an oddly eventful day. My friend Tara and I had gotten to the cemetery at about 3:30 pm. We drove in slowly through the forking roads. I asked if she remembered where he was. She said “It feels like it would be off in this direction” then quickly changed her mind; after I had seen what I thought might have been the start of a funeral, in oddly what looked to be a predominantly Asian populated section. I had no idea segregation went on through burial. In the mood I was in I did not feel like trespassing on anyone’s morning. Especially being such an obvious outsider to their culture.

My HandsOnce my hands where dirty with mud, and smelled as such. Time went, and my hand grew clean, but marks and drawings inked thru my pores. When washed after long, they took the bitter smell of spirit gum, and old cloth. Once, for a few weeks, my hands smelled like nothing. I kind of wanted them to become soft soiled, and smell like old pennies, but I chose to let the tips of my fingers callas, and bits of my skin to split red. These days my hand smells like garlic. I have not a hero, but an old man who I'd hope for my mentor. His life seems to have been long and bitter, as is a chefs way. He has amzing quoates such as " My mother would say in life eigther you are pissed off, or being pissed on." The man who said this has to to be 60 at least. And figuring out lif is the last thing on his mind these days.
